The Gallery – Water

Since my son was born, my life is barely recognisable as my own. Many of the things I used to enjoy doing have either been given up or put on hold. One thing in particular that I miss is going to gigs. Not just the kind of gig where you turn up at the local pub and see an old man with a beard and a battered old guitar knocking out an iffy Bob Dylan cover (although sometimes they are surprisingly good), but the kind where you find out your favourite band are playing 100 miles away and at a minutes notice you grab your toothbrush, jump in the car and hope you can casually bump into one of them and get in to the sold out gig on the guest list.

Imagine my delight when I got tickets to a three day music event. That is practically a festival. Just with going home instead of camping. Nothing was going to get in the way of me enjoying my weekend. Nothing. Not even this:

Thunder, lightning and so much rain it was like someone had stuck a great big pin in the sky and popped it and all the water came out at once. Believe it or not, this photo was taken after it had eased off considerably. The music was put on hold until the storm passed so, as I was soaked to the skin, I decided to go home for a complete change of clothes, but made it back just in time for the last couple of bands.

Luckily, the weather was better on the other two days. My son loved the time he was there, proudly showing his wristband to anyone who would look at it and dancing to the music. We ate ice creams and had lunch by the river. I saw some amazing people (including Seasick Steve and Newton Faulkner) and had a brilliant time. It has left me wanting more and I definitely won’t be leaving it so long until the next time.
